About Us
The American Association of Surgical Nurse Practitioners is at the forefront of expanding the roles of advanced practice nurses by serving to promote and unify nurse practitioners who are working in surgical settings. This association is at the vanguard of the nursing profession's initiative to broaden its scope of practice. Because this nursing specialty is not officially acknowledged, thousands of nursing practitioners are not given formal recognition for their work; the AASNP is fighting to change this situation.
Our Mission
The American Association of Surgical Nurse Practitioners fights for and provides support for advanced practice registered nurses in the legislative arenas of both the local and national levels. AASNP is able to advocate for the nursing profession and broaden the boundaries of nursing's scope of practice into surgical settings through collaboration and partnerships it has formed with numerous organizations and legislative bodies.
Our Goal
There are several different educational tracks that can be taken in order to become a specialist in the profession of nursing. These tracks center on a nurse's desire to help other people. The American Association of Surgical Nurse Practitioners is working hard to change the fact that the surgical path has not yet been discovered for advanced practice registered nurses. In order to accomplish this goal, the association is developing nationally recognized surgical specialty designed specifically for advanced practice registered nurses.
Our Vision
Our vision is to make sure that every advanced practice registered nurse practicing in surgical settings has proper recognition, support and resources available to them to provide safe and effective care to their patients.
